Benefits of Music Therapy for Older Adults

Cognitive

Music can bring back memories, stimulate conversation, and help with reality orientation. It can help to maintain thought processing and organization of memory.

Communication

Participation in music therapy has been shown to help maintain speech and can provide an additional means to communicate and express emotions.

Physical

Music encourages physical movement through dancing, clapping and instrument play. Music therapy can help maintain range of motion, and has been shown to help with pain management.
