Children's Music Education
With a degree in music and a graduate certificate in Music Therapy, Cheryl began teaching music to young children over 25 years ago at a Montessori preschool and kindergarten and with a private Kindermusik business. Through the years, she expanded her skills working in children’s services at a library, designing storytimes, and presenting for the Virginia Library Association on music in children’s literature programs.
As a board-certified music therapist, Cheryl is able to weave her past experiences in music education with an understanding of the developmental needs of young children of all abilities.
- Mellodyville music classes created for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and their caregivers, focusing on early music education based on social/emotional development, musical expression, vocabulary and the National Core Arts Standards.
- Teaching Artist for Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning through the Arts.
- Children’s camps on musical story adventures, the science of music, and creative musical expression.
- Presentations and training for preschool educators, libraries and other groups on presenting music to young children.
- Music therapy for children is available on a case-by-case basis.
