About Cheryl

Cheryl Costello is a board-certified music therapist and folk musician whose work centers on hospice care, older adults, and the living traditions of historical folk music. She brings together performance, therapeutic presence, and a deep respect for music as a shared human experience.

Her musical path has included opera, leading and playing mandolin in a family folk and bluegrass band, early childhood music education, work as a Teaching Artist with the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning through the Arts, and collaborations with libraries, schools, and community programs across the country. These experiences ultimately led her to pursue board certification in music therapy, where she now supports individuals and families through music at the end of life.

Alongside her hospice work, Cheryl performs and presents historical folk music from European and American traditions, exploring how songs have long served practical, emotional, and therapeutic roles in everyday life.

Her primary instruments include voice, guitar, flute, and Irish whistle/fife. She is currently studying harp as the next expression of a life shaped by continual musical growth.
